Installation Standards
When completed, your installation will be well insulated (pipes to R3 minimum), properly wired and mounted, fully tested and operational. For Creative Solar, the system owner will be fully briefed on the controller and key aspects of system operation, including long term maintenance and service requirements (which are minimal).
The install will be conducted in a professional manner, and the site left as we would like to see in our own homes or places of business. Wherever required or appropriate, the installation will be completed to CSA standards.
Velux Install
We added an extra temp guage at the top of the solar storage tank to enable customer monitoring. Note also the labels which are found throughout the system.

LINE SET COVER: For this home, the supply/return lines between the collector on the roof and the pumping station at the utility had to be run outside. This cover system makes for a professional finish and can be painted.

Thermo Dynamics Flat Plate Collector: Well suited to our climate in the Maritimes, this robust, 'local solution', manufactured in Dartmouth, preheats hot water for domestic use. It requires a separate storage tank and heat exchanger which are supplied as a complete package. Using a pump driven by a PV panel, the TD collector will supply hot water to your home even when the power is off.

A Creative Solar installation currently serving a family of five in Halifax.
TUBE SYSTEM - FOUR PERSON HOUSEHOLD
This system, installed by Creative Solar, in a Dartmouth, NS, home, was still producing heat after this picture was taken at 4:30 pm in late January. At that time the 'smart', Apricus controller had slowed the system's pump to allow for maximum heat capture which continued until 4:45 on this SSW roof face. Week of March 24, the outlet temp at the manifold on this roof was 195F+. Considering that most domestic hot water systems are set at 120F, the benefits of a solar system should not be hard to grasp.
This 40 tube system will produce more than 10 million BTUs annually, while offsetting close to 4,000 lbs of CO2 emissions.
SOLAR SIDE: If buying or building "new", make sure the home has a utility corridor running from the roof to the basement to allow for the connections for a solar installation. Also, try to ensure that the utility location has room for additional hot water storage.
